Website Page Titles
When website visitors are searching for your company in Google, a snippet of information appears. One of the key factors that will help them determine if your website has what they are looking for, is the page title.
Good page titles can tell people a lot about your business and what you offer. They can help them understand more about your business and it gives context to the page.
Here are 4 things you need to know about website page titles
- Length – Your page title shouldn’t be short or long. If your title is too short, it won’t tell people what the page is about. If it is too long, the full title won’t display in the search results. Try to keep page titles around 70 characters long.
- Keywords – Include a few of the pages keywords in the title, as this can help you increase your ranking. Avoid keyword stuffing as this can hurt your rankings because it makes your pages look spammy. Try to use just a few keywords by creating a clear, readable and descriptive title.
- Company Name – Include the company or brand name at the end of the page titles. Use a delimiter like a hyphen, colon or pipe to separate the name from the rest of the title. If you have a long company name that would make your title over 70 characters, consider putting it at the end of the title.
- Unique Title – As you create pages for your website, each page should have it’s own meaning. It could be a message you are trying to convey, an action you want people to take or anything else. As each page has it’s own meaning, so should the title. This will help searches and people understand what each page is about.
Having a page title that follows these guidelines improves your chances of being found through search engines and increases your rankings.
